Title: SSM in Pre-hospital Emergency Care

Module Directors: PJ Cummins (Paramedic), Mike Smith (Paramedic), Dr. Gerard Flaherty

The students through this Special Study Module (SSM) in Pre-hospital Emergency Care work with and accompany Paramedics on house calls in the community, receive training and develop essential skills in medical care, present the patient to the medical and nursing teams in A & E, learn about front line staff and allied health care teams and see beyond their future role as doctors. This is a collaborative module and offered with an allied health care team, namely Paramedics. Four Paramedics who teach on this module have recently received Honorary Clinical Fellowships from the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences in recognition of their contribution to the medical students' learning experience.
