The CKI would like to extend congratulations to Jason Sherlock, final year BA Economics, Sociology and Political Science at NUI Galway and active community leader on campus on his successful selection and participation in the Washington Ireland Program https://wiprogram.org/ 2021.  The Washington-Ireland Program for Service and Leadership (WIP) is a six-month program of personal and professional development that brings university students from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland to Washington, DC for summer internships and leadership training.

In his own words Jason explains that:

‘I achieved full attendance in Scoil Bhríde Shantalla (Junior Infants to 6th class) where I participated in the Uni4u programme. From an early age I wanted to go to University as I believed it was an aspiration worth going for. I luckily participated in the early school leavers access programme at NUI Galway where I utilized the supports available which aided me in developing my interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. This allowed me to access my success within higher education.

I am currently in my final year of an undergraduate degree studying Economics, Sociology and Political Science. I have also received a letter of acceptance to a Masters in International Finance starting in September 2021.

I am thrilled that I got offered a place on the Washington Ireland program. I look forward to immersing myself within the WIP community and engaging in discussions with leaders at the highest levels of American political, business, and cultural life. I hope I will make a positive contribution. I am also a member of the US Embassy Dublin Young Leaders Council, this along with the Washington Ireland Programme will help me to engage in issues effecting my community, Ireland, and Ireland-US relations. I hope to make a meaningful contribution in shaping Ireland's future and prosperity’.
